The Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution carried out a workshop titled “Youth initiatives”, within the project “Strengthening democratic education” funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), at the Khatwa association for development in the north of the Strip, with the attendance of more than 25 male and female students of different university specialisations. The meeting aims at making the youth aware of the importance of youth initiatives and their positive effect on society; noting that this activity is the fifteenth and last of a series of activities carried out in all parts of the Gaza Strip within the project.

The meeting was opened by the trainee Inas Hijazi, a business-administration student who passed the training-of-trainers course carried out within the project, through a brainstorming process with the attendees around the concept of the initiative — as it is considered an organised process with a beginning and an end that strives to achieve an output in the form of support and self-advocacy for the rights and equal opportunities of the persons concerned. The trainee continued the talk on the goals of youth initiatives, as they support the youth's role in society, strengthen their skills, and encourage them to think and create.

The trainee continued discussing with the attendees the meaning of communal entrepreneurship, and its three dimensions (innovation, creativity, risk-taking), and spoke of the qualities of communal entrepreneurs and the importance of communal entrepreneurship for society as a whole, as it works on investing the energies, strengthening constructive change, bringing forth youth leaderships, and increasing the youth's belonging to their society.

In the conclusion the trainee discussed with the attendees the most important entrepreneurial ideas, their fields and forms, and the traits of successful youth initiatives and their life cycle, and they reviewed models of successful youth initiatives and discussed the causes of their success and the extent of their positive effect on society.
