Democratic transition in Palestine — where to?

Pal-Think delivered the workshop «Democracy and democratic transition», under the NED-funded «Promoting democratic education» project, at the Bayader Environment and Development Association in Khan Younis.

The Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution carried out a workshop titled “Democracy and democratic transition”, within the project “Strengthening democratic education” funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), at the Bayader association for environment and development in Khan Younis, south of the Strip.

The meeting aims at strengthening the historical background of the legislative duality in Palestine, and it was attended by 25 male and female students of different university specialisations.

The meeting was opened by the administrative assistant at the Pal-Think institution, Mais Zaqout, welcoming the attendees and the participants and introducing her institution and its different activities that attend to the youth and to educating them democratically.

In his turn, Salah Abu Shamala, a graduate of sharia and law who passed the training-of-trainers course within the project, continued the meeting speaking of the legislative duality and the stages of enacting legislation according to Palestinian law, and the state of the legislation issued by the Legislative Council after the division.

In the second part of the workshop, the trainee Ibrahim Abu al-Nasr, a student of business administration in the English language, continued, speaking of democracy in terms of its concept, a historical glimpse of it, and the reality of democracy in Palestine.

At the workshop's end the attendees praised the importance of the information presented, affirming the importance of presenting more information about the Palestinian political system within expanded trainings, and the necessity of circulating such workshops to other groups of the youth.
