The trainers of the “Pal-Think Academy for Democracy and Human Rights” held an awareness workshop titled “Women's rights and the social reality” in the Middle Area governorate — at the Al-Shorouq Association for Community Development — in cooperation with the German Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa).
“Pal-Think for Strategic Studies — Gaza” had prepared a group of the academy's members through an advanced training programme, “Training of trainers in democracy and human rights (ToT)”, with the aim of honing their skills and presenting them to civil society as young trainers capable of spreading democratic and rights awareness in society in general, and among their peers in particular — out of belief in young people's intellectual and academic capacities.
The academy's trainers in the Middle Area governorate delivered the first of the workshops, “Women's rights and the social reality”, at the Al-Shorouq Association for Community Development. The team coordinator, Ahmed Jabr, opened the workshop alongside his colleague Nour Abed, introducing Pal-Think for Strategic Studies, its many programmes, the “Pal-Think Academy for Democracy and Human Rights” project, and the activities, events, and programmes the academy offers — including delivering awareness workshops in all governorates of the Gaza Strip.
The trainers surveyed the reality of women's rights in Palestine and the chief challenges facing them. Team member Kamel Jouda continued with a detailed explanation of the Palestinian and international legislation on the protection of women's rights, shedding light on the community initiatives concerned with supporting women's rights and improving their reality in serious attempts to overcome the challenges facing them.
Kamel Jouda then continued the session with a detailed explanation of the international and local legislation and mechanisms for protecting women's rights, spotlighting the laws and initiatives aimed at achieving equality and social justice for women in society. Shahd Abu Dahrouj presented a set of interactive activities aimed at strengthening joint youth work in support of women's rights and the advocacy of their causes. The trainers closed their workshop with the attendees on the mechanisms for confronting all forms of gender-based violence and the role of youth in supporting women's causes.
