The Civic Education Corps holds an awareness meeting on youth political participation and its importance

The Civic Education Corps held the awareness meeting «Youth political participation and its importance» — raising students' and young people's awareness of democracy, human rights and gender-based violence.

Within the role the civic-education body at Pal-Think plays with the goal of strengthening the awareness of youth and university students in the issues of democracy, human rights, and gender-based violence, an awareness meeting was carried out titled “Youth's political participation and its importance”, on Sunday, 30 May 2021, at the Yafa Youth Centre in the Khan Younis governorate — within the project “Preparing a Civic Educator”, implemented by Pal-Think for Strategic Studies with funding from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

The meeting was opened by the lawyer Bilal al-Najjar of Pal-Think, welcoming the attendees and acquainting them with the Pal-Think institution, the civic-education project, and the most important activities carried out during this project. Al-Najjar likewise spoke about the civic-education manual prepared within the civic-education project and its goal, and the most important topics and issues the manual takes up — calling on all the attendees to enter Pal-Think's page in order to view it more fully and benefit from the information contained in it.

For her part, the meeting was led by the civic-education body member the student Aya Abu Hatab, who spoke during the meeting on the concept of political participation, then set out the forms and levels of political participation and the characteristics of political participation and its motives.

She likewise spoke on the determinants of political participation among Palestinian youth, the requirements of effective political participation, youth's role in political participation, and the elements of effective political participation for youth; new horizons for youth's participation in the homeland's issues were likewise put forward.

The attendees affirmed during the meeting the importance of such meetings, which in turn strengthen and grow the spirit of political participation among citizens generally and youth especially.

The meeting was interspersed with a set of questions, interventions, and enquiries that were answered by the meeting's facilitator.
