In continuation of the work of the Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution in strengthening the cultural and communal awareness of Palestinian youth in what serves their future and raising their competence to take part in making a better future for them and for the society they live in, it finished today the implementation of the first group of youth initiatives aiming at strengthening the concepts of communal and political awareness, the resolution of conflicts by peaceful means, and women's political participation — falling within the project “Youth as a positive force for change”, which comes with funding from the U.S. Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). This group of initiatives, composed of (10) initiatives, comes within a series of activities and workshops carried out within the project beginning from the month of January of the current year, targeting in total more than (500) young men and women from all the governorates of the Gaza Strip, at (15) workshops and (10) initiatives, with the implementation of the activities and initiatives distributed across all five governorates of the Gaza Strip equally. It is also planned to complete the implementation of the second group of initiatives during the coming period.
During the implementation of the initiatives there was cooperation with a number of associations, centres, and youth cadres from the various governorates of the Gaza Strip to contribute to bringing the initiatives to their goals, and targeting the required youth categories. As relates to the initiatives' subjects and content, they focused on strengthening the values and culture of tolerance among the youth stratum in Palestinian society, in addition to the youth's role in strengthening this culture in society side by side with strengthening the resolution of conflicts by the available peaceful means. In addition to strengthening women's role and participation in political and communal life, to bring the youth and society to a high degree of culture and progress.
As relates to the responses and aspirations of the youth targeted by these initiatives, they expressed their hope of bringing Palestinian youth to a state of refinement, culture, and real participation in political and communal life, in addition to their hope of strengthening the resolution of conflicts by peaceful means among all the strata of Palestinian society, and that it be the fundamental trait in settling conflicts, in view of the great dangers the violent means of settling conflicts carry.
