In completion of the work of Pal-Think for Strategic Studies as an independent Palestinian research institution seeking to strengthen joint reflection and dialogue around the issues and challenges that concern Palestinian society, present and future, and following up its work with Palestinian youth, Pal-Think for Strategic Studies, in cooperation with the Palestinian Planning Centre in Gaza City, organised a study day on the components of the Palestinian political system — politics and economy.
The study day took up four axes. The first axis took up the subject of the Palestinian Basic Law, delivered by the volunteer researcher at the centre, Mr Mohammed al-Talbani, taking up the constitutional situations in Palestine before the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority, constitutional life under the Palestinian National Authority, and the features of the Palestinian Basic Law. The second axis took up the Palestinian political system, delivered by Dr Ibrahim al-Masri, taking up the components of the political system, the powers of each part of these components, and the proposed ways of reforming this system. As for the third axis, it took up the elections in the Palestinian political system, presented by Dr Abdel Hakim Halasa — the lecture touched on youth's role in the electoral process, the electoral systems followed in Palestine, the best electoral system, as well as the factions' role in completing the elections process, and the dire consequences resulting from the continuous postponement of the elections and who stands behind that. And the final axis took up the Palestinian economy, presented by Dr Mazen al-Ajla, in which the economic situation in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip was reviewed — under the Israeli occupation and after the establishment of the Palestinian Authority — and the challenges facing the achievement of development in the Palestinian economy. It is recalled that this training day is the last within the programme of rights education for youth and political and communal development, implemented by Pal-Think with support from the European Endowment for Democracy.
