The Youth and Environment Association and Pal-Think for Strategic Studies carried out a lecture titled “Freedom of expression on the issues of the Palestinian woman”, within the project “Strengthening tolerance and entrepreneurship” funded by the Atlas Network, at the association's premises in Deir al-Balah. The lecture, delivered by lawyer Fidaa al-Buhaisi, aimed to shed light on women's rights as flowing from human rights. The workshop covered women's rights in every side of life concerning them — the right to work, education, freedom, decision-making, and the rest of the rights — and focused likewise on the woman's right to express her opinion, one of women's important rights: freedom of expression is the woman's capacity to hold views without coercion, and the capacity to express them by multiple means without threat or external obstacles.
The lecture targeted women and female graduates in the city of Deir al-Balah — 25 women of all specialisations.
The lecture concluded with a number of recommendations, foremost: the necessity of working to strengthen freedom of opinion and expression, equality, and peace within Palestinian society and to move away from the suppression of freedoms; and the necessity of intensifying joint discussion sessions and awareness on the legal issues concerning women.
