This episode comes within the project “Gaza confronting corona”, implemented by Pal-Think for Strategic Studies with support from the Atlas Network. The guest was Mr Rami Khalaf, well acquainted with the productive sectors and the textile sector during the pandemic.
The episode addressed the following axes:
- Corona's effects on the productive sectors in the Gaza Strip, especially textiles.
- The repercussions of the corona pandemic on the sewing and textiles sector.
- How this sector was harmed under the corona pandemic, and the workers' numbers — did they rise or fall?
- Workers' wages — how they were and how they have become.
- We also spoke about the export of textiles — masks specifically — under the corona pandemic.
Discussion turned on the principal causes and the obstacles the industrial sectors in the Gaza Strip currently face. The workers were spoken of as the bleeding wound under these conditions — those suffering most, who have been subjected to exploitation — and light was shed on their squandered rights. We touched on the manufacture of masks exported to Israel and the West Bank — for Gaza still exports life to the world and rescues everyone through the manufacture of protective clothing and masks, to high standards and capabilities. The guest noted that everyone must face their responsibilities toward the Gaza Strip, its economy, and its workers, and spoke with statistics and figures about the Palestinian industrial sector in the Gaza Strip — production and export rates, and the challenges facing the Palestinian economy in the Strip under the blockade, the power cuts, and the corona pandemic.
