Egyptian–Saudi relations, over the history of their development, have been marked by warmth and harmony in the two countries' positions in all the political, economic, and military fields, and Egyptian–Saudi relations witnessed no manifestations of public disagreement except in some limited issues and crises. The two countries preserved a great measure of political accord during the past decades: the relationship between the two countries is distinguished by strength and continuity, given the standing and great capacities the two countries enjoy at the Arab, Islamic, and international levels — the two countries being the two poles of relations and interactions in the Arab regional order. Generally, Egyptian–Saudi relations have been marked by strategic depth, given that the two countries are counted among the pillars of security and stability in the region, being two pivotal states in the axis of Arab moderation.

Despite the importance of that, Egyptian–Saudi relations witnessed, during the past period, silent disagreements that would announce themselves from time to time; and in the latest period a condition of severe tension has prevailed over the relationship between the two countries. This tension began to appear following the differences in points of view and political orientations over a number of Arab and regional issues — beginning with the Syrian crisis and the Egyptian position on the Syrian president, and the war in Yemen, in addition to the Egyptian position on the Iranian expansion in the region. All those issues and others led to the occurrence of severe tension between the two countries, which appeared through the media and some economic decisions — which stirred several questions about the causes and motive of this disagreement, and the extent of its effect and repercussions on the future of the relationship between the two countries?
