This paper examines the obstacles that have led to the decline of extracurricular activities in the universities — one of the paths of advancement and of strengthening students' participation in community work — in order to propose working mechanisms that increase the capacity of higher-education institutions, through their relationship with civil-society organisations, to strengthen students' community participation. It does so through two axes: first, the reality of students in Palestinian society; second, mechanisms for strengthening students' participation in community work. These two axes are discussed at three principal levels: the universities, civil-society organisations, and volunteering.
This youth policy paper was produced by young men and women within the “Civic Education 2” project implemented by Pal-Think with funding from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
