The paper discussed the social perspective on cooperative work as one of the entry points to economic and social development in Palestinian society. It presented a set of findings that form a social obstacle to cooperative work — chiefly the inclination toward individual work, the avoidance of the risk of collective work, the mismanagement of international funding directed to cooperatives, and the weakness of the culture of cooperative awareness. The paper proposed solutions to these problems, the most important being: the need to integrate the concepts of cooperative work into formal and informal education programmes, spread the culture of cooperative work, and encourage the establishment and funding of cooperative societies in non-traditional sectors — in addition to organising community awareness campaigns to raise consciousness and stimulating volunteering in cooperatives, especially among youth.
