Over the past years Palestinian society has passed through a state of instability produced by the failure of the political-settlement track, the internal Palestinian division, and the recurrence of wars and political, security, and economic crises. This has caused many structural political and social deformations, leaving heavy consequences for the Palestinian democratic experience and for civil peace — which now requires different policies and approaches to strengthen the path of internal peacebuilding, protect civil peace, and reinforce the democratic course in Palestinian society.
The problem this paper addresses is the ways of building internal Palestinian peace, strengthening the democratic approach, and protecting civil peace in Palestinian society during the recovery phase, through three principal axes: the first offers a conceptual introduction to peace, the strengthening of democracy, and civil peace; the second surveys the foundations of the process of building peace, democracy, and civil peace in Palestinian society; while the third addresses the mechanisms and policies through which the Palestinian internal front can be protected, crises and disputes resolved, and pluralism in Palestinian society safeguarded.
