This paper, by writer Rizq Atawneh, attempts to describe social pluralism in Palestinian society and its effects on the future of the political division. The paper sought to read the future of the political division by interrogating a defined set of causes assumed to contribute to its continuation and institutionalisation. The paper posits three causes that contribute centrally to the division's continuation without being the cause of its occurrence:

  1. Confining the division's causes to programmatic disputes between political factions commanding wide popular and mass support.
  2. Assuming that the past fifteen years produced no social change among Palestinians, and that a decision by the divided parties to end it would reset the social condition to what it was before the division.
  3. Assuming that ending the division must pass through the divided parties' decision to agree to end it.
