With the journalists' syndicate, Pal-Think runs a Gaza workshop under «Promoting Democratic Education»
Pal-Think delivered the workshop «The media's role in democratic education» under the NED-funded «Promoting democratic education» project, at the journalists' syndicate in central Gaza, with over 25 students.
The Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution carried out a workshop titled “The media's role in democratic education” within the project “Strengthening democratic education” funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), at the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate in the middle of Gaza City, with the attendance of more than 25 male and female students in the media specialisations. The project aims at raising the youth's awareness of democracy, its foundations, and the rights related to it, which contribute to building the youth's capacities and qualifying them to participate in decision-making and the elevation of society.
The meeting was opened by Mr Akram al-Louh, coordinator of the projects department at the syndicate, expressing his thanks to the Pal-Think institution for enriching and bringing the youth into the democratic system and contributing to creating their role and awakening their awareness. He added also that Pal-Think builds up the media role on the Palestinian arena and qualifies the young media workers in making their true role.
Mais Zaqout, the administrative assistant at the Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution, also spoke about Pal-Think's activities and works and about the project of strengthening democratic education and the extent of its contributions to raising the youth's awareness of democracy, qualifying them for true political participation and the elevation of Palestinian society.
In his turn, the trainee Amjad Yaghi continued the completion of the workshop, thanking the Pal-Think institution for his joining the project of strengthening democratic education and the hosting by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate. The trainee Amjad Yaghi touched on the functions of the media outlets in the democratic societies, the extent of the protection of society's means and the provision of information to the public and the contribution to achieving social unity, and on the free discussion to know the different viewpoints of the public and the citizens, and he affirmed the democracy of the media outlets and the extent of guaranteeing their performance of their effective role.
In the conclusion the attendees discussed some of the points the trainer spoke of, as to their usefulness in the actual guarantee of achieving democracy and its embodiment in the Palestinian media, praising the subject's importance and its reflection on the Palestinian reality.
