With the Sahem cancer-care association, Pal-Think holds the workshop «Women's reality in Palestinian society»
Pal-Think delivered the workshop «The condition of women in Palestinian society» under the NED-funded «Promoting democratic education» project, at the Sahem Cancer Care Association in Rafah, with over 30 students.
The Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution carried out a workshop titled “The reality of women in Palestinian society” within the project “Strengthening democratic education” funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), at the Sahem association for the care of cancer patients in Rafah, with the attendance of more than 30 male and female students of different university specialisations. The project aims at raising the youth's awareness of democracy, its foundations, and the rights related to it, which contribute to building the youth's capacities and qualifying them to participate in decision-making and the elevation of society.
The meeting was opened by the trainee Mustafa Douhan with the showing of a video illustrating the restrictions imposed on the woman in the Arab societies; then the attendees discussed the causes of these restrictions and the ways of strengthening society's awareness of women's rights and the importance of her role in developing Palestinian society. The trainee continued, making clear the demographic distribution of the Palestinian woman, as she represents more than half of society.
He continued the meeting discussing with the attendees the most important issues in which the woman can have influence, and the woman's role in public life — where the attendees interacted much with the raised subject and the opinions varied among them. He added that all the civil-society organisations work now, and at every time, on protecting the woman's rights and opposing the violence around her, and all affirmed the guarantee of the rights of all the citizens without discrimination, including the women and girls.
At the workshop's end the attendees affirmed the importance of holding such meetings and workshops, to strengthen the woman's role and confront all discrimination.
