Lecture: Young people's economic rights under the Palestinian labour law

Pal-Think held the lecture «Young people's economic rights under the Palestinian labour law» for 20 students and graduates, under the tolerance-and-entrepreneurship project.

The Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution organised a lecture titled “The youth's economic rights under the Palestinian labour law”, with the attendance of 20 of the university students and graduates in the Gaza Strip of both sexes and various specialisations. This lecture comes in the frame of the project “Strengthening the culture of tolerance and entrepreneurship” in cooperation with the Atlas Network, as this project aims at strengthening the culture of tolerance, entrepreneurship, and free work among the youth in the Gaza Strip.

The lecture was delivered by the economic researcher Dr Raed Hilles, who discussed with the participants the Palestinian labour law, its importance, the places of application of this law (the private sector and the civil sector), the youth's economic rights, work contracts, the minimum wage, paid leave, in addition to insurance against work injuries.

He also pointed to the importance of the youth's understanding of the labour law, in order to demand their economic and social rights and protect them from exploitation — such as their right to work and a better standard of living, their right to legitimate earning, in addition to their right to participate in the process of comprehensive development.

Dr Raed concluded the lecture with recommendations to the youth to raise their efforts of research and enrich their knowledge of what rights they have and what duties are upon them, to guarantee achieving equality of opportunity in work far from discrimination, spreading the culture of justice, in addition to improving work conditions — which reflects on the youth's economic and social reality and raises their productive capacities, which leads to success in the development process.
