Gaza — The Pal-Think for Strategic Studies institution carried out a lecture titled “Development and international cooperation”, within the project “The Youth Forum for Politics and Development”, which comes in cooperation with the “National Endowment for Democracy (NED)”. The lecture was presented by the economic expert and director of Pal-Think, Mr Omar Shaban, with the participation of a team composed of 25 youth (13 females : 12 males) within the age category 18–24, who have the passion to learn about politics and development.
The goal of the lecture is strengthening the youth's understanding and knowledge of the economic, social, and political aspects of states and their influence on the relations between the various international powers, in addition to explaining the concepts of international cooperation, peaceful coexistence, and the developmental challenges facing the world, from poverty to wars and conflicts.
The lecture's principal axes comprised international relations and the criteria that govern them (economic interests, political interests, security interests); the ideological criteria that govern international relations; the non-aligned states — the Soviet pole and the Western American pole; the complications in international relations and the illogical entanglement in them; the trade-offs in international politics, such as the geographical interests, like the Palestinian cause; how we win the solidarity of the world and the international community — how to address the international community.
Shaban likewise touched on many of the concepts particular to the study of development and international relations, such as the policy of solidarity and of alliance and the difference between them, in addition to the Human Development Index (HDI) and other development indicators such as gross domestic product, gross national product, and the growth rate.
In the conclusion, the lecture's review activity is that the team's members present a short presentation comprising a study of the reality of the economic, social, and political development indicators in Palestine.
